We believe that our children are an integral part of the Celebration Circle community. We also believe that it truly "takes a village to raise a child" -- and do our best to provide positive role models, guides and companionship to our young people.
SUNDAY CIRCLE
We welcome the children's participation in the first half hour of our Sunday morning services. This time is usually rich with music, poetry and rituals--and children respond well to this portion of the service. We then ask the children to come forward to receive acknowledgement and blessing as they prepare to leave the room and participate in their own Children's Circle during the second half hour.
Their Children's Circle activities are generally lead by one or more of our "elders" (adults), using some combination of ritual, music, story-telling and/or art activity to impart an age-appropriate, inter-faith spiritual/moral/ethical lesson. These "elders" are under the guidance of our Children's Circle Coordinator, Susan Smylie, and her two professional support staff, Merle Pruett and Audrey Paululis. In order to enhance the experience of the morning's service for the children and adults alike, we actively encourage all children aged 2 and over to participate in the Children's Circle activities during the time that the adults engage in meditation and reflection during the second half of the morning service.
One ritual that takes place during Children's Circle is the taking up of a collection. The money adds up week-by-week and approximately twice a year the children decide upon a charity or cause to which they will donate the money. Parents are encouraged to provide their children with small donations to include during this time. The children are also currently doing a study about peace during their circle time.
WE WELCOME ALL SUPPORT AND INPUT REGARDING the involvement of children in the Celebration Circle. We recognize that there is an evolving consciousness regarding the role of spirituality in child-rearing, and look forward to growing in our understanding. We also welcome new volunteers who enjoy working with children and are interested in supporting them in their spiritual journey.
